Sunflower Seed Processing

  • Sunflowers are harvested once fully matured, and the seed heads are dried and threshed to extract the seeds. The seeds are then cleaned, sorted, and dried before packaging and distribution.

  • Once sunflowers reach full maturity, the seed heads dry and turn brown, indicating they are ready for harvest. The plants are then cut and left to dry further if needed. The dried seed heads are threshed to loosen the seeds, which are then mechanically or manually separated from the flower head. After extraction, the seeds go through winnowing to remove husks and plant debris.
